Oil Changes in Plymouth-Canton

oil-change

If there's only one thing you remeber about owning a car, remember this: Get your Oil Changed Regularly! One of the simplest, most effective and inexpensive ways to help protect your car is to have the oil changed and the oil filter changed regularly. Oil is the lifeblood of your engine. It reduces friction with lubrication and helps seal the pistons, rings and cylinder walls all while dispensing heat to help cool other engine parts. Without regular oil changes, carbon and varnish buildup and your engine will start to corrode.

The next time you bring your car to Canton Wear Master, we'll check your oil and let you know if it's time for an oil change. Keeping your oil clean and changed regularly will ensure you'll get the most life out of your vehicle. To schedule an oil change or other services, Click Here.

More Information About Motor Oil and Oil Changes

About the oil classification system. All motor oil comes with a classification indicating its viscosity, which is its friction or resistance to flow. In multi-grade oil, the first number indicates how the oil will flow when it is cold. The lower the number, the lighter the oil and the better it will perform at lower temperatures. The second number indicates the thickness of that same oil at high temperatures. For example, 5W-30 oil will flow as 5-weight oil at zero degrees Fahrenheit and as 30-weight oil at 210 degrees Fahrenheit.

Why many use 5W-30 oil Many vehicles today leave the factory with 5W-30 engine oil. Vehicle manufacturers recommend it because it is a lighter oil that performs well in a range of temperatures and improves gas mileage.

Synthetic oils Not all motor engine oils are petroleum-based. Synthetic oils, or chemically compounded lubricants, are also available. They provide:

  • Higher viscosity stability over a wider temperature range.
  • Reduce oil thickening.
  • Reduced wear and increased load-carrying ability.

Motor Oil Most cars on the road today use multi-grade oil — one that can work efficiently in cold and hot weather. Two numbers, such as 5W-30, rate multi-grade oil. For more information about oil and oil changes, please contact us.
